DIRECTOR
JEFFREY NYTCH was recently appointed Director of the Entrepreneurship Center for Music at the University of Colorado-Boulder. For 15 years Jeff has built a diverse career as a composer, teacher, performer, and arts administrator. He has continually created fresh ways to support and nurture that career, whether it be through developing commissioning opportunities, establishing residencies with community organizations, or building relationships with patrons. He has also run a small business, helped found a non-profit service organization in Houston, performed a wide range of repertoire as a vocalist, and served five years as Managing Director of The Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble (“PNME”), one of the nation’s premiere new music ensembles.
A native of Vestal, New York, Nytch completed a bachelors degree at Franklin and Marshall College (Lancaster, Pennsylvania), studying with John Carbon, and earned Masters and Doctoral degrees in composition from the Shepherd School of Music, Rice University (Houston), under the guidance of Composer-in-Residence Paul Cooper. He has also studied with Donald Erb at Gunther Schuller's Schweitzer Institute of Music in Sandpoint, Idaho.

COURSE INSTRUCTORS
JOAN MCLEAN BRAUN was appointed Executive Director of Concerts and Public Relations for the CU College of Music in 2001. She had served as the College’s Public Relations Director from 1993-97, and as Concerts Director from 1997-2001. Earlier positions in arts administration included Assistant Manager of the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra, and Assistant Director of CU-Boulder’s Office of Cultural Programs. She has experience in all aspects of the presenting field, including artist selection, contract negotiation, concert production, public relations, marketing, advertising, box office operations, fund raising, and outreach. Joan received her Bachelor of Music in flute performance with highest honors, and her Masters of Business Administration with an emphasis in Organization Management, both from CU-Boulder. The unique combination of a management degree and a music performance background have proven to be invaluable in her current position.
FRANK MOYES is Entrepreneurship Scholar in Residence at the Deming Center for Entrepreneurship in the Leeds School of Business at CU-Boulder. He has years of broad international and domestic management and operations experience, and now works closely with start-up companies in Colorado. Since 1997, Frank has been teaching entrepreneurship courses in the Leeds graduate and undergraduate programs, and also assists with teaching arts entrepreneurship for the ECM. He was the recipient of the Educator of Distinction Award given by the MBA class of 2004, 2005 and 2007. Frank also received the 2005 Colorado Software Industry Association Apex Award that recognizes individuals who contribute to Colorado’s technology community. Frank holds a BA from Pennsylvania State University, and an an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
KEVIN HARBISON is the recording engineer for the College of Music at the University of Colorado at Boulder, and Technical Director of Grusin Music Hall. He is also the owner of Threshold Audio Recording. He received a BM in Audio Recording Technology from the Cleveland Institute of Music, where his teachers included Jack Renner and Thomas Knab of Telarc International, and Bruce Egre of Azica Records. Although he has recording studio experience, he finds his true calling to be location recording and has done everything from solo recitals to Big-10 marching bands. His clients have included The Cleveland Orchestra, Colorado Music Festival, Summit Brass, Tulsa Opera, The MSU Spartan Marching Band, Boulder Bach Festival and the Boulder and High Plains Youth Symphonies. He enjoys teaching and has been a mentor for the “Notes at 9000” Emerging Artist Series. He also teaches courses at CU on the art of recording and of being recorded: “Prepared for the Soundcheck” (MUSC 2081), “Behind the Board” (MUSC 2091) and “Advanced Recording Techniques” (MUSC 4191). When he’s not recording, Kevin can be found playing with antique toy trains in Erie with his wife and two children.
PROGRAM ASSISTANT
MARGARET VAN SISTINE has been working with the ECM since the fall of 2005. Ms. Van Sistine holds a BM in trumpet performance and a Certificate in Business from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and an MM in trumpet performance from CU-Boulder. She is currently pursuing a DMA in trumpet performance and pedagogy, continuing her work with Professor Terry Sawchuk. Ms. Van Sistine assists with a wide array of ECM activities, including serving as teaching assistant. She plays third trumpet with the Wyoming Symphony, is an active freelancer in the Denver/Boulder area, and teaches trumpet both privately and for Continuing Education at CU-Boulder.
PAST PRINCIPALS
KEVIN WOELFEL. A past Director of the ECM, Mr. Woelfel's performance career began as the Third/Assistant Principal Trumpet position with the Spokane Symphony. In the years that followed, he performed with many orchestras including the Chicago Lyric Opera, Grant Park Orchestra, Rhode Island Philharmonic, and the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra. As a composer and arranger, Mr. Woelfel was with the U.S. Air Force Band stationed in Vacaville, California and Yokota, Japan. An entrepreneur, Kevin has founded two manufacturing companies: WolfPak Incorporated, and Rocky Mountain Case Works. He has also founded www.artsstart.org to distribute the I'mART model for opportunity analysis.
MICHAEL MILLAR. In addition to serving as the second Director of the ECM, Grammy Award-winning bass trombonist Michael Millar has been a freelance artist in Los Angeles for over 20 years. Dr. Millar currently serves as Executive Director and bass trombonist of the Santa Clarita Symphony. He holds the degree of Doctor of Musical Arts, with concentrations in Performance and Arts Administration, from Claremont Graduate University, as well as performance degrees from the University of Colorado – Boulder and California State University – Los Angeles. Michael Millar is an artist/clinician for the Conn-Selmer Company, Inc. and performs on Bach trombones. He can be reached at millar@music.org
CATHERINE FITTERMAN. Ms Fitterman was the founding Director of the ECM and has been working with musicians for more than 20 years. A classical pianist by training, her many roles in the music industry include concert promoter, talent buyer, artist manager, strategic planner, major gift fundraiser, college teacher, and entrepreneur. Currently, Ms. Fitterman is Assistant Professor and Director of the Undergraduate Music Business Program at New York University’s Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions.
